Perilla, called “shiso” in Asia, also goes by the names of purple mint, Japanese basil, and the beefsteak plant, and is widely used in Asian cuisine. Perilla seeds produce an oil which is very high in omega 3, an essential fatty acid the skin is unable to synthesize on its own.
