The evening primrose is a pioneer plant with yellow flowers that can resist temperatures as low as -13°F. On the American continent, it appears to have survived an Ice Age 70,000 years ago. The plant flowers in the evening and closes again in the morning, with the petals opening up suddenly from a few seconds to twenty minutes.
