Sesame is a herbaceous plant, native to India, and produces a pod-shaped fruit that bursts open to reveal approximately 80 tiny black, red, or white seeds that have been used for centuries in Asian, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean and African cuisines. The oil from the seeds is used in cosmetics to help nourish the skin.
