Your tinted sunscreen FAQs, answered
Should you use sunscreen everyday, year round?
Yes, daily use of facial sunscreen should be an important part of your beauty routine all year long. While we’re most familiar with the effects of the sun’s short-wave UVB rays that cause red, stinging sunburn in the superficial layers of the skin, 95% of the light that reaches our skin is made up of UVA rays that have a long wavelength, which means they can penetrate deeper into the skin.
These rays are present even when there isn’t any sunshine. So UVA has an effect on our skin all year round, even when it’s cloudy or snowing. UVA rays can also penetrate window glass, which means you are exposed to harmful rays even during your drive to work!
When you use a sunblock — along with other measures like wearing protective clothing and staying in the shade where possible — you can decrease your risk of visible signs of early skin aging.
What to keep in mind when picking a sunblock:
While an SPF sun protection cream works to partially prevent UVA and UVB rays from penetrating the skin by either absorbing, scattering, or reflecting some of the light, it should always be kept in mind that even the best sunscreen for the face is never an impenetrable shield against UV radiation.
Over-exposure to the sun will cause damage no matter how good the product may be. So, when possible, stay out of the sun at the hottest times of the day, and wear a hat, sunglasses, UV resistant bathing suit, and cover up with clothes.
What is the best sunscreen for you?
The best facial sunscreen for you depends on your skin-type and the amount of SPF (sun protection factor) you need to properly protect your skin. SPF50 is an excellent choice if you spend a lot of time outdoors and/or if you have sensitive skin.

What is tinted sunscreen? How does it work?
Tinted sunscreen provides much-needed sun protection like regular sunblock and is designed to match your existing skin-tone like a light coverage foundation.
UV PLUS Anti-Pollution Tinted Sunscreen is available in light, medium, and dark tints so that you can apply sunscreen that blends in with your skin in addition to:
- protecting your face from UVA and UVB rays.
- fighting indoor and outdoor environmental aggressors with Clarins’ Anti-Pollution Complex.
How do you apply tinted sunscreen?
The best tinted sunscreen blends right in with your skin, so you’ll want to compare the light, medium, and deep tints to find your perfect match.
Once you’ve identified which face sunscreen with tint is right for you, you can apply it after using your daily moisturizer. Warm a tiny amount by rubbing your palms together. Apply it to your face with light, pressing movement, working from the middle of your face outward.
If you plan on applying makeup, you can do so after rubbing in your facial sunscreen.
